Les Baux de Provence, Les Carrières de Lumières, Van Gogh, September 2019
The Careers of Lights, a “bright” idea. The Baux de Provence were known for its stones and quarries. After the quarries closed, it was really sad not to use these huge caves with smooth walls and streaks. An idea has sprung up …
Why not use these huge cavities to project images. The structure of the stone gives a different dimension to projected images. I attended the first screenings in the 80s, whose subject was “Space Conquest”. It was wonderful.
Today, the technical means are much more advanced. As a result, it’s not just projected images, the images are transformed into animation.
Van Gogh, as many painters, went to Alpilles Mountain. So, the show honours this great painter.
