+ My feelings and historical part

It’s hard to talk about a city that I really like. I have many memories of my youth there, the city that rocked my 18th birthday. At the time, Aix was the exit to make a terrace on the Cours Mirabeau. Our occupation, to admire the pretty students, especially foreigners. The atmosphere remains the same despite the years.
The transhumance returned to Aix for the show. It is a special moment for those who do not know. Cours Mirabeau is already a splendid place, but you have to stroll through the old town. It is teeming with “mascarons”, these decorations adorning buildings in the form of human figures, often frightening because their function was to be able to ward off evil spirits to prevent them from entering the house. Magnificent Atlanteans and Caryatids also adorn some facades. The Atlanteans represent human figures whose function is to support an architrave instead of a column or a pillar. The name of Atlantis evokes the myth of Atlas who carries the sky on his shoulders. The commercial court on the Cours Mirabeau or the Vendôme pavilion are magnificent examples.

Aix-en-Provence is also extremely rich in religious street statues. the city has a hundred and it is difficult to walk a street without seeing at least one.
Historical part
Founded in 122 BC. J. – C. under the name of Aquae Sextiae by the Roman garrison of Gaius Sextius Calvinus, Aix becomes thereafter the capital of the county of Provence. A spa town since Antiquity, Aix-en-Provence has an important cultural heritage.
