Manila, December 2017
The second most populous city in the Philippines after Quezon city, which touches it. But a very polluted city with regard to the traffic that reigns there. A Parisian who would drive a car in Manila would then consider that, ultimately, the traffic in Paris is not as important as that.
There is a big difference between the so-called popular neighborhoods and the neighborhoods around the old city of Manila. You will discover the true face of the Philippines with this beautiful smile that the Filipinos wear.
Manila is a town all the time with many traffic. You could see here some videos mainly about the traffic.
Manila, officially the City of Manila (Filipino: “Lungsod ng Maynilà”), is the capital of the Philippines. It is one of the most densely populated city proper in the world.
The Spanish city of Manila was founded on June 24, 1571, by Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi. From 1762 to 1764, she was occupied by the English during the 7 years war. Then the Americans occupied it from 1898 until the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941. The Japanese then occupied it until 1945.
The streets of Manila suffer from many chronic traffic jams. Jeepneys are the main public transport. These are old Jeeps of the US Army, left behind after the Second World War, which were transformed into very colorful minibus but also very polluting. Filipinos also use many tricycles for short distances as taxis for up to three or seven people. The city also includes many taxi cars. Since the early 1970s and the administration of Ferdinand Marcos, Manila has an LRT network, which often follows the main axes of the city. It is one of the first urban rail public transport systems in Southeast Asia. It is about 18mi (29km) long.
