New-York City, USA, June 2011
New-York City has always made me dream. I sang with the group Telephone "One day, I would go to New-York with you". 5 days in this huge city. We are talking about Parisians who are always in a hurry, but New-Yorkers are even more so...
You have small food shops, a bit like caterers but self-service. You take a small plastic box and you choose what you want to eat. I don't think that's the generality, but it's close to what you can see on TV: "New-Yorkers don't cook. They buy ready meals, burgers, pizzas...
All these buildings, these skyscrapers make you dizzy. And at the top of the Empire State Buildings, you feel small against all the peaks pointing skyward. Times Square is also memorable. The light is so intense that it is unnecessary to use the flash for night shots.
The visit to Ellis Island remains a nostalgic moment thinking that families could be separated, some, often children, being able to access the promised land and others rejected, parents most of the time. The symbol of the Statue of Liberty is very far from this selective sorting for the American dream.
