Ourense, Spain, September 2022
A very beautiful city with many churches. I was also surprised by the number of frescoes. But, above all, many stores have their metal curtain with frescoes. They also seem to be well respected. This is not the case of old Ourense where many townhouses are abandoned and writings cover all the walls. I find that really unfortunate...
This city is also a thermal bath town with two fountains from which boiling water comes out, enough to drink tea in winter.
The name of the town was given by the Romans, baptized Auriense (the "city gold") because of the abundance of this metal, it was an important city in the Roman province of Hispania until its gold reserves were exhausted.
