The day of November 4 did not stop at Les Salins. A small restaurant with a perfectly cooked bull steak, small potatoes, a small café and the stroll through this charming town can begin with Alain...

We went around the city along the ramparts. The gates are magnificent as well as the ramparts, well maintained, except for a few weeds. See the arches built at the time
These are not the first photos since I have already posted photos on one of the first reports on "Le Gard". The city hasn't changed much since 2006.
The streets of the city are very pleasant to walk, if the tourists are not very numerous. So, before or after the salt, come and taste a dish made with bulls and then take a walk for a good digestion...

The name Aigues-Mortes comes from the marshes and ponds that stretched around the village and also from the fact that there was never white water in Aigues- Dead.
A Roman named Peccius developed the first salt marshes and gave his name to the Peccais marsh58. The exploitation of salt had begun from the Neolithic and had continued in the Hellenistic period, but the ancient exploitation of saltworks did not give rise to any major archaeological discovery and it is foreseeable that these vestiges were destroyed by the installations modern saltworks.
In 791, Charlemagne erected the Matafère tower, in the middle of the marshes, for the safety of fishermen and workers in the saltworks.
It was from this city that Louis IX left twice for the Crusades: the seventh crusade in 1248 and the eighth crusade in 1270 for Tunis, where he died of dysentery, typhus and even of scurvy according to historians.
At the beginning of the 14th century, Philip the Fair used the fortified site to incarcerate the Templars. Between November 8 and 11, 1307, forty-five of them were questioned, found guilty and held prisoner in the tower of Constance.
During the French Revolution, the town was called Port-Pelletier.
