Barangay Laoac, Pangasinan, Philippines, March 2020
With reduced movements for foreigners during COVID-19, impossible to take pictures...
Fortunately, there is a very nice little place near the house in the Barangay Laoac (subdivision within the cities) that I will show you around.
Corn is grown to eat grilled. In this province, the Filipinos love corn cooked on the fire. Others dry it to add it to the meal or eat it grilled. Corn kernels are removed from the cobs and dried in the sun. On some roads or on flat concrete surfaces, you will see huge carpets of corn. You have to turn them constantly to dry them completely. The cobs are collected and put on the fire to prepare the meals. Nothing is lost.
The pig is king in the Philippines along with the chickens. A family celebration is organized around a good fire on which cooked on a spit, a pig stuffed with vegetables. Obélix would have appreciated it very much.
I thank the whole family of Marlyn who received me royally in these troubled times.
