Nabeul, Tunisia, September 2024
Nabeul (arabe : نابل, Nābil) is a city in northeastern Tunisia, located in the south of the Cap Bon peninsula, about sixty kilometers southeast of Tunis.
You can quickly tour Nabeul. Above all, you have to go to the beach to enjoy a sandy beach. But like in all Tunisian cities, you have to go for a walk in the Medina and get "lost"in the souks.
To get there, if you are not in Nabeul, nothing beats "louage", a taxi which will take you from one town to another. This is the best way to reach out to residents. And a camera in hand will loosen many tongues...

In Antiquity, the city bore the Greek name of Neapolis which is composed of nea (new) and polis (city). This is what the Greeks and then the Romans called it. The city's founding dates back at least 2,400 years. The Greek Thucydides describes it, in the 5th century BC. BC, a Carthaginian trading post and gives it the title of the oldest city in North Africa mentioned in texts after Carthage.
The Muslim army commanded by Abou al-Mouhajer arriving from the Arabian peninsula conquered Cape Bon in 674. The Arabs then erected Ksar Nabeul in the 9th century, then the Great Mosque.
The settlement of Jews took place at the beginning of the 18th century, with the arrival of people from Tunis, Djerba and villages of Cap Bon who settled in various neighborhoods. The city historically has seven synagogues.

Thanks to Slim, a friend, who recommended the “Café Maure Chez Hajji” to me to drink mint tea. Ask because Google Maps is not perfect…
Thanks again to Dominique François, the manager of Villa Zembra, who told me about this means of connecting between cities, much cheaper than a private driver.
